Electives in Middle school

Child came home with a form today to pick some electives for 8th grade. It was either band, chorus, dance or spanish (but can't have spanish for a full year unless you get a 4 or 5 on the stupid FCAT). You need to pick them in the order you want or you may decline all. What the ???

My child would like to have spanish all year since it is a high school credit but since we do not know if he got a 4 or 5 we are afraid to fill it out. He definately doesn't want dance, chorus or band.

It really makes me mad on how they favor the advanced kids and the rest are treated like crap. To me this is favoritism. By the way he is in spanish right now with straight A's. But once again why grade them if it only comes down to the FCAT results. Why do we even get report cards? It doesn't count for anything.

Illuminated "nook" awesome

Two years ago I bought a Nook from Barnes & Noble mainly because I love to read. I kind of fought it because I said "I liked holding a book". Well that changed quickly and I love it. Well yesterday we were in St. Augustine and I wanted to check out the new Nook with light. Yup, VV bought it for me for an early birthday present. This Nook is awesome. In a matter of minutes all my books were on the new Nook. I was able to make the shelves as before to list the books I have read. The face of it is larger because it is a touch screen. I sat out on the lanai last night in total darkness and read. And with these ole eyes of mine it was fantastic. You just hit a button and can make it dim all the way to bright! Because there was a special going on my Barnes & Noble membership took off $10.00 which was a nice surprise. I am going to cancel the membership when it runs out because they send me all kinds of coupons but none of them can be used for Nook books because they are much cheaper than hardcover. Finally a product that does what it says it will do. So if you are thinking about it, the lighted Nook is great to read in the dark and in the daytime you just shut it off. Plus I can still use the other one. Happy reading.:-)

I was looking at properties for auction bc taxes not paid. Armond, which looks like it is in the hammock was 90% of the listings. Anyone know what went wrong. Or exactly where it is located? BB

Sidewalk Safety Question.

As we all know the city of PC is in the process of installing sidewalks throughout the city. Currently they are on Belle Terre between WhiteView Pkwy and Rymfire Dr. They are also on Bette Terre from RT100 to US-1, and last they are finishing in front of Rymfire Elementary School. The side walks are about 15' from the street except for when they get to the intersection of a cross street or a street that comes to an end at the main street. There the sidewalk then comes right to the corner where the cars are closest to either making the turn or traveling inches from where someone is waiting to cross the street. My question (and concern) is, why not leave the end of the sidewalks back the 15' like the rest of the sidewalk instead of turning and coming to the very corner of the street? It would make more sence to me to keep people away from the corner in case someone cuts the corner, or runs off the road for whatever reason. This way I would think the people on the sidewalk would be safer off the corner, than right on it. Especially if the corner is a school bus stop. We already know the problems we have at the bus stops, why make another one?

Just doesn't seem right to me. Any ideas as to why the city thought this was a good idea to do it the way it's being done?:thumbdown:

OK, do any of you have Facebook accounts, I recently joined the "masses" at the request of several people I worked with back home, question how do I copy something to my "wall". I got the copy part right, found the wall icon, but no where do I see a place to paste anything. One said "its right there, you must be having serious senior moments", ok that one I shall ignore but would like to know, sometimes people send me things to my "wall" and if I get it, its pure luck.

Flags at Half staff

Was coming home from lunch with my husband and noticed that the flags at the corner of PCP and Old Kings are at half staff. When I passed by the water department office on Utility they also had their flags lowered. Was curious to know if anyone knows who died?

Your Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ accounts are still at risk of government snooping WITHOUT a warrant or court involvement of any kind. CISPA is worse than SOPA and already passed the House in a vote. This is unconstitutional (violates the 4th Amendment) and creepy.

Over grown property

There is an over grown lot behind my property and we noticed that the trees are now starting to come through our fence, as well as over grown vegetation that we have been cutting back, but still grows right over my fence.

Does anyone know who I need to contact about having the property cut back a bit?

Wells Fargo Finally Did It

I got my notice they are going to start charging service fees, starting 8/12. 5.00 for non paper and 7.00 for paper.

In order to avoid this I have to keep 1500. PER DAY in my account or have direct deposit.

Guess I am out of there. Been with them since 1988. SO SAD.

Anyone else get the notice? Love to hear about other banks and fees.

Walking on Dunes Destroys Them-Please Use Stairs

We've never seen as much devastation of foot traffic over the dunes as what we're seeing lately in Flagler Beach. Hopefully I can attach the photo of what has finally prompted me to write on here - not 25' from the beach stairs ("walkover") several people must have gone over the dunes instead of using the stairs. This is the norm. What happened is now it's absolutely destroyed. Next wind or rain will wash out the tremendous swath they ruined, and it will continue until we have a huge gap which need taxpayer-funded crews to come in and dump sand, etc. People don't seem to realize the reasons to keep off the dunes: When someone walks on the dunes, it damages the hardpack & the sand begins to move with wind or rain. People see a path & assume it's another way to the beach, without thinking of the damage they cause. A few minutes of people in the dunes taking photos, or kids playing, can undo decades of slow natural processes that build the dunes. They are very fragile. They are disappearing at an alarming rate. They protect A1A as well as homes & businesses along it. It is illegal to walk in the dunes or pick vegetation. There's actually a $500 fine for walking/driving/parking on dunes & vegetation.
The problem is magnified by the loss of dunes from storms, yet the abuse by visitors seems to be getting worse. We must protect what we have left. Please help by spreading the word and educating anyone you see in the dunes. We also need to make sure locals and property owners are well informed. Signs are in the middle of every block of A1A, but people don't notice. Beverly Beach had a huge problem with 4-5 cut throughs per block until they put up dune fencing. We need to look at some permanent solutions to conserve & protect while we still have some dunes left.
